They automatically reduce pressure during exhalation so breathing against incoming flow is more comfortable for the patient. Covidien’s FlowSens technology lets clinicians customize inspiratory and expiratory sensitivity according to each user’s unique breathing patterns. With Adaptive Pressure Stability, the devices automatically adjust to deliver a smooth and stable flow to the patient. Finally, the Sandman DuoST device has a backup rate feature that delivers a machine-triggered breath during an apnea or hypopnea.
